C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005)
Un portrait du Québec et de sa société, c’est l’histoire d’une famille typique de la classe ouvrière, un film qui «nous ressemble». Zachary Beaulieu nait le 25 décembre 1960. Très jeune, il se démarque de ses autres frères qu’il déteste, mais demeure l’un des préférés de son père qu’il admire. Cependant, ce dernier le surprend un jour avec les habits de sa mère, marquant un changement dans leur relation. Devenu adolescent, Zach doit lutter contre lui-même pour conserver l’amour de son père en refoulant son homosexualité.
A story of a typical working class family that resembles a portrait of Quebec and its society, Zachary Beaulieu (Marc-André Grondin) was born on 25 December 1960. At a very tender age, he already differs from his brothers whom he hates but remains the favourite of his father whom he so admires. One day, his father was so shocked to see him wearing his mother's paraphernalia marking a sudden change in their relationship. As he became a teenager, Zach tries all he can possibly do to get rid of his homosexuality to win back the old relationship he has with his father.

Lilies - Les feluettes (1996)
This is an expository narration set in a Quebec prison in 1952. Jean Bilodeau (Marcel Sabourin), the local bishop, is invited to a prison to hear the last confession of Simon Doucet (Aubert Pallascio), a dying inmate. But Doucet in fact has a very different revelation for Bilodeau: he has enlisted his fellow inmates to stage a play set in 1912, when Bilodeau and Doucet were childhood friends. The reenactment of the past is played inside the chapel of the prison and since it is taking place within a prison, all roles are portrayed by the male prisoners. The play dramatises a period during Bilodeau and Doucet's childhood in Roberval, Quebec, when they were both coming to terms with their homosexuality. Young Doucet (Jason Cadieux) has a romantic relationship with Vallier (Danny Gilmore), whilst Young Bilodeau (Matthew Ferguson) remains repressed and tries desperately to convince Simon to join the seminary with him. All three are involved in a school play dramatising the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, with Simon in the lead role. The St. Sebastian play's homoerotic undertones contribute to Bilodeau's sexual awakening, which involves his unrequited love for Doucet.

Shock to the System (2006)
The traditional crime thriller gets a modern twist with this sequel to Third Man Out following the further adventures of gay detective Donald Strachey (Chad Allen). Hard boiled private investigator Donald Strachey has just found the lifeless body of his latest client, and now in order to catch the killer he'll be forced to rely on his straight-laced husband Tim and overenthusiastic assistant Kenny. As the investigation leads Strachey straight into Dr. Trevor Cornell's dark world of "conversion therapy,' where psychology and religion combine with the singular goal of turning average everyday homosexuals "straight," the stage is set for a climactic showdown with more than a few surprising twists and turns.

Zero Patience (1993)
This extremely unusual AIDS musical features the ghost of the French-Canadian airline steward (Normand Fauteux) who, according to And the Band Played On, a book about the AIDS epidemic, was the origin of one of the largest outbreaks of HIV. Known as "Patient Zero" by the Centers for Disease Control, the handsome and promiscuous steward was basically the "Typhoid Mary" of the AIDS phenomenon. In the story, Patient Zero comes back from limbo as a ghost to see his friends suffering from the syndrome: some dying, the rest protesting at ACT-UP rallies. He realizes that his memory has been vilified as the extremely promiscuous source of all this suffering. However, it is only when he becomes aware of an exhibit being prepared at the Toronto Natural History Museum, one which singles him out yet again as the villain, that he becomes aware that the exhibit's curator is an unusual being in his own right. In fact, the show is being put together the famous nineteenth-century explorer of the upper Nile, Sir Richard Burton (John Robinson), inexplicably still living, working at the museum, and filled with misguided homophobia. Though no one else can see Zero, Burton can, and eventually the two become lovers and the ancient explorer comes to view "Patient Zero" as "the heroic slut who inspired safe sex."

When Night Is Falling (1995)
This Canadian drama tells the tale of Camille, who works at an uptight Protestant college as a professor of mythology. She has been going out with career theologian Martin for three years, but it appears her real true love is her dog, Bob. Bob dies in a tragic car accident and poor Camille is devastated. She is so upset that she grabs the wrong clothes from the laundromat. The clothes belong to the beautifully predatory Petra. Camille discovers the error and returns them to Petra's workplace, an avant-garde circus in an empty warehouse where Petra confesses that she switched them on purpose so she could seduce Camille. Camille demurs. Petra begins following her, and gets to kiss her in the lobby. Eventually the persistent Petra succeeds and the two become lovers.

Touch (2001). The film is a harsh, entirely narrated tale of a young man who was an imprisoned sex slave of an older man. The 16-year old boy tells his poetry-laden story about how he likes to be beaten and fucked. After his rescue and recovery, he is unable to lead a "normal" life, always seeking the violent sex he lived with day and night. Touch is a highly stylized powerful antidote to the Hollywood pablum and standard news media coverage of child abuse.
Take Out (2000). Rory delivers fried chicken while he works his way through high school. He's trying to deal with his coming out whilst horsing around with his hunky straight friend at the restaurant. When Rory makes a delivery to a huge Victorian house he meets a handsome middle-aged man who may be coming on to him.

After a night of drugs, sex, games, and deception, it is clear they need each other. Is it true love, or have they both hit rock bottom? This short is impeccably acted by the lead characters.
Gold (2005). An aging artist who is losing his vision employs a drug-addicted street hustler to paint his paintings for him in a mutual quest for salvation. Gorgeously acted and written, this was our favorite short from the 2005 film festival circuit.

The Hanging Garden (1997)
25-year-old Sweet William (Chris Leavins) returns to his parents' house after ten years of absence to attend the wedding of his sister Rosemary (Kerry Fox). He used to be an obese in his teens (as played by Troy Veinotte) and was once caught having sex with his hunky bisexual friend Fletcher (Joel S. Keller) in the garden by his grandmother when he was 15 and that same friend is the man marrying his sister. As a consequence of the ensuing rejection, particularly by his father (Peter MacNeill), Sweet William had the choice of either running away to live in a big city far away from the family or committing suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the garden. In the movie, both the alive, now slender and self-assured Sweet William and the obese, suffocated teenage Sweet William, hanging as a fresh corpse in the garden, are present and interacting. In the version of reality where Sweet William dies, his family members cannot shed their memories of his death and carry on with their lives, whereas in the other version Sweet William is haunted by memories of his father's misbehavior and is unable to reconcile with him. As well, a new family member, Violet (Christine Dunsworth) is subsequently revealed to have been fathered by Sweet William, from an incident when Sweet William's mother (Seana McKenna) took him to a prostitute in an attempt to “cure” his homosexuality.

Everyone (2004)
Ryan (Matt Fentiman) and Grant (Mark Hildreth) are the perfect gay couple. Completely devoted to each other and ready to make the commitment of a lifetime, all signs point to a long and loving relationship for eager grooms. When the guests begin to arrive for their intimate backyard ceremony, however, everything begins to tear at the seams as the baggage of their family and friends becomes too much to bear. From betrayal to overbearing parents to bitter resentment and a mysterious guest who seems to have an eye for one of the grooms, it will take a lot more than luck for Ryan and Grant's big weekend to go off without a hitch.
Sugar (2004)
An adaptation from a series of short stories by Canadian cult favorite Bruce La Bruce, this seriocomic coming-of-age story stars Andre Noble as Cliff, a teenager growing up in Toronto in the 1980s. Whilst he is very much aware that he is gay and hungers for sex, he still remains a virgin. On his 18h birthday, his free-thinking and liberated mother, Madge (Marnie McPhail), pours him a stiff drink, offers him a reefer, and politely but firmly tells him to go downtown and have some fun. As Cliff is so eager to lose his virginity, he followed his mother’s advice and immediately spots Butch (Brendan Fehr), a good-looking guy in his early twenties who makes his living as a male prostitute whilst he is pissing in an abandoned property. Cliff instantly gets infatuated with Butch whilst Butch seems fond of Cliff. They clicked and become very close friends...
