Twenty-year-old Loïc (Pierre Chatagny) works by day in a chocolate factory and by night cruises the internet for sex with older men. His life is a series of pointless anonymous sexual encounters until he meets one man who appears to be interested in him for himself, and not just his body. Loïc's journey to self awareness is told through a series of episodic events, such as the suicide of his best friend, his growing infatuation with a local team's soccer star, a car accident and subsequent hospitalisation which uncomfortably reunites him with his parents. At the end of the film he realizes that he can be his own person and he recites a list of things he will never do in order to fit in and belong.

One night just outside a discotheque in Lisbon, Pedro (João Carreira) and Rui (Nuno Gil) were passionately kissing each other in celebration of their one year anniversary of being a couple. They bid each other goodbye as Pedro has exams at the university the next day whilst Rui has to bartend back at the disco. Minutes later, Pedro had a brutal vehicular accident and dies at Rui's arms. At the same time in another part of the city, Odete (Ana Cristina de Oliveira) works as an attendant in skates in a hypermarket. She longs to have her own child. She goes out with Alberto (Carloto Cotta), a security guard in the same establishment. When Odete demands that Alberto impregnates her, he gets out of the relationship as he does not want commitment. Abandoned and all alone, Odete becomes obsessed with her child in her own world full of illusions.

A doctor offers to carry out AIDS prevention in the biggest prison of the Latin America. There he coexists with the reality behind the grills, which includes violence, overcrowding of the cells, individual cell decorations and an established pecking order. In spite of all the problems, the doctor soon realises that the prisoners are not devilish figures as there is solidarity, organization and a great will to survive.
