The film is an autobiographical account of a smart good-looking lad named Dean Page (Matthew Leitch) from lower middle class Briton posing as "Alexander Gryffoyn," a bright student and the aristocratic son of Lady Gryffoyn (Diana Quick). Dean with his good looks and upper class accent successfully penetrates the exclusive social circles of late 70's London and Paris showing the worst of British aristocracy -- cocaine-sniffing, wife-swapping, servant-belittling, for whom snobbery is a cultural norm. In reality, what Dean only wants is to be loved and respected.
