Comédie dramatique ou drame musical, utilisant de nombreuses chansons, sur un mode proche de la comédie musicale, pour raconter une histoire centrée autour du personnage d'Ismaël (Louis Garrel), un secrétaire de rédaction, inconstant et indécis. Divisé en trois actes, signalés chacun par un titre, qui découpent nettement l'action du film: le Départ, l'Absence et le Retour. Ismaël travaille tard dans la rédaction d'un journal et il est trop occupé à finir le soir pour aller au cinéma avec Julie (Ludivine Sagnier). Celle-ci a incité le couple à faire ménage à trois avec Alice (Clotilde Hesme). Le dimanche est consacré au repas chez les parents de Julie avec ses deux soeurs. Mais une nuit, en assistant à un concert, Julie a un malaise et décède brutalement, laissant Ismaël et ses proches seuls face au deuil, traité en deux actes (L'Absence, Le Retour). Erwann (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet), un lycéen qui passe son bac, jeune frère du nouveau petit ami d'Alice, fait peu à peu la conquête d'Ismaël.
A comedy drama or musical drama that uses songs to tell a story that centered on Ismaël (Louis Garrel), an unstable and uncertain newspaper writer. The story is divided into three acts: Departure, Absence and the Return. In the beginning of the film, Ismaël works in a newspaper firm and so occupied with the many deadlines, he is not able to join his live-in partner Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) to the cinema so she went alone but he followed. When they were home, Ismaël' officemate Alice (Clotilde Hesme) arrives - the completion of the ménage à trois. His Sundays are spent with Julie's parents and two sisters. But one night whilst attending a concert, Julie felt so ill and suddenly dies leaving Ismaël in dreadful mourning (as shown in Absence and The Return). Erwann (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet), a secondary school student and young brother of Alice's new boyfriend suddenly crosses Ismaël's life as he lets him discover the other side of his being that strangely ended with the two of them being together.
